What to do after launching a blog

8 steps to complete after launching your blog

So you officially launched your blog! Congratulations! But now what? This is probably the most confusing part of blogging because there are a million different things you could do. Some things may work and others not so much. It is different for every blogger. To point you in a good direction I will be outlining 8 steps to complete after launching your blog.

Haven’t started a blog yet? Check out my step by step guide here!

By now you should have set up your social media accounts, developed several posts, and properly set up your essential pages (About, Contact, Privacy Policy & Disclosure).

So what should you do after you launch? There is no simple answer but the following points are a great place to start:

1. Claim your website on Pinterest

First you will want to claim your website so Pinterest will trust you. Which means you have a much better chance at getting people to see your pins.

Follow these simple steps:

1. Login to your account & select the three-dot menu in the upper right hand corner

Claim your website on Pinterest

2. Go to Edit Settings and select Claim

3. Enter your website URL & click on the “Claim Website” button

Next steps only work if you have WordPress and have the Yoast SEO Plugin Installed

5. Go to Yoast SEO & select “Social”

7. Save Changes

8. Go back to Pinterest hit “Next” and select “Submit”

That’s it! It normally will take no longer than 24 hours.

2. Join Pinterest Group Boards

Pinterest Group Boards enable your pins to be seen by the followers of that group and the followers of anyone that repins your pin. This is huge and hopefully will get you a lot of traffic. Join as many as you can because it is likely you will only get accepted into a small percentage. You can use PinGroupie to find group boards.

3. Enable Rich Pins

Enabling rich pins adds more information to your pins by pulling it from your website. This will help boost your Pinterest traffic resulting in more clicks and saves. The best part is you only need to do it once. Just click this link to get to the Rich Pin Validator. Enter any link to your website and click validate. That’s it!

4. Start growing your email list

Start this right away so you do not miss out on obtaining subscribers. In order to start your list you will need to sign up with a mailing service.

Mailerlite is a great option for any type of blog and it is free for up to 1000 subscribers! You can use it to send out newsletters, create pop ups, campaigns, online courses and much more.

Now is also the time to think about creating a freebie(s) in order to grow your email list.

What you should do after launching your blog

5. Begin promoting your Posts

Get those posts out there! Pinterest should be your number one source of traffic so start pinning your own pins. It is suggested to go by the 80/20 rule which is pinning 80% of other peoples content and 20% your own.

Also utilize one other social media platform. You can do more but I recommend starting with only one because it could add too much to your plate in the begginning.

You can check out my Instagram here!

6. Apply for Ads (down the road)

DO NOT apply for an ad network such as Google Adsense or Media.net. It is not worth your time because you will only make pennies and the code is bloated which will slow down your site. These ad networks also make your site look spammy which can turn away readers.

Instead DO THIS:

Once you hit a certain number of page views or sessions (depends on the ad network) you can apply for a premium ad network such as Monumetric, Mediavine or Adthrive. These ad networks have much better code and pay well so focus on growing your blog through amazing content and worry about ads later!

Like many others I thought I should be applying to Google Adsense so I did. I ended up getting rejected (blessing in disguise) which made me do some more research and that is when I found out it was not worth my time.

I want you to know that I created this post to document my blogging journey and when I initially published this I 100% thought you should apply to Google Adsense but now I know better so I made sure to update this post.

My goal is to help YOU.

7. Set your goals

You certainly can do this before you launch but it also helps to get the feel of things in order to set realistic ones. I suggest setting both short term and long term goals.

For example, here are a few of my goals:

Month 1: obtain 500 page views, 20 Subscribers & create freebie

Year 1: 10k page views, 200 subscribers & create ebook or course

8. Write more content!

Lastly, continue to write more content! Consistency is key but it never hurts to post more than usual or start building up some back up posts just in case life gets in the way.

Well there you have it! These are the 8 steps to complete after launching your blog.

Blogging takes a lot of time and effort so do not get discouraged if it is not going how you’d expect. There are so many different things to do and try in the blogging world so take it one step at a time.

I am so glad you decided to jump into this blogging journey!
